Technology update – DocBuster
If you want to help your fee earners work smarter and faster, then DocBuster could be just what you need. DocBuster is a smart and simple piece of software designed specifically for law firms to make bulk printing a piece of cake.
Here’s a common request to those that deliver reprographic support to our clients. Fee earner: “I have received this disk/email from the client, can you print everything off for me to review?”
This disk/email could contain one file; it could contain one thousand files. Your fee earner has no idea. Using DocBuster, the Docucentre team can see how many files there are, how big those files are, when they were created, what they contain and whether any are password-protected.
They can then report back to the fee earner, providing her with a list of what is on the disk/email. The list can be ordered by file name, author or creation date, enabling the fee earner to choose precisely which files need printing.
DocBuster will take this information and print out exactly what is required in the preferred order, saving both time and money. The fee earner gets what she needs rather than sifting through piles of paper – time better spent on chargeable work.
By automating bulk printing, DocBuster frees up the Docucentre team to handle other tasks, secure in the knowledge that all files selected will print in the correct order. It is fast and efficient, taking files from different sources and aggregating them into a single print job.
Law firms are increasingly introducing digital working practices in an effort to reduce their reliance on paper. We are using DocBuster to support digital and paper-lite working at a number of our client firms.
By printing only what is needed, our clients don’t waste reams of paper printing out what will, at best, be shredded.

Learning & Development
With competing calls on their time, fee earners need support from PAs who can anticipate issues or opportunities, and provide the right support. We believe that PAs should be an asset in a law firm, helping fee earners to access services, keeping abreast of client developments, and managing meetings and diaries. This, in turn, enables the fee earners to improve their service to clients.
A law firm’s reputation rests on getting its legal documents right, both in terms of the advice given and the way that advice is presented. Microsystems’ DocXtools has been designed to fill functionality gaps in Microsoft Word and simplify the drafting process, helping law firms to achieve greater drafting efficiency and document quality.
